It's no secret that Autumn...Fall...
whichever...is my favorite season of the year.
It is a great time of year to stack wood, be amazed by the vibrant colors in the trees, and flannel comes back in style! Outside it's Not too hot, not too cold, and in this part of Maine, the days are temperate and the nights are cool. The skies have been unusually clear which is great for hot chocolate and star gazing from my deck.

The best part about Autumn for us is my annual Halloween Birthday party. We have a scavenger hunt, tell spooky stories, and eat lots of yummy treats. My husband is in charge of the scavenger hunt, the amazing chili, and the music. I do the decorating and play hostess. This year we're doing it Doctor Who style and my daughter is going to be a spaceship. Yes, a spaceship and it was HER idea.BUT ENOUGH about me, my question is this, dear reader, what are some of YOUR holiday traditions for this time of year?
If you don't have any right now, what might you like to do?
I am offering a free seasonal sachet to the most interesting and unique holiday tradition for Autumn.

Every year for my birthday we would go to pumpkin picking. We have been doing this, oh since I was 4 or 5 years old.For you Long Islanders we would go to Hick's every year, walk the Casper story and then have hot cider, and pick out our pumpkins. It's one of my fondest family memories and now that I'm a mom it's a tradition that I still like to uphold. I love fall, not just because my birthday is in October but I love the weather and watching the leaves change colors and decorating for Halloween. An living upstate, we love to go to a new farm each year, enjoy the drive, pick out pumpkins find as many different colored leaves and of course enjoy some cider.

my family and i, yes, even at almost 30 years old, my mom, stepdad, brother, husband and i, get together for a pumpkin picking extravaganza. we stop at dunkin donuts, get tons of the round treasures, and mountain dew, and hop ourselves up on sugar and caffeine. then go to multiple pumpkin fields, do hay rides, and pick out a bunch of little pumpkins and one giant orange monstrosity...and take pictures of the whole goofy thing. :)
ReplyDeleteMy children and I love this time of year. We collect leaves and twigs that are on the ground all month and decorate the house. We make pentegrams for our house and friends, we dunk apples, dress up but most importantly we all take part in a ritual. My girls are between ages of 8 to 17 ( 4 of them) and they love the craft. We celebrate the earth and give thanks to the elements xxxxx
ReplyDeleteMy friend takes her kids candy and gives them money in trade (Halloween Fairy) so they don't eat the sweet stuff. She started this tradition after she found out that bacteria grows in sugar. Keeps them from getting colds. (notice all the kids really start getting sick after Halloween) Loved this idea.
ReplyDeleteOOOOH I LOVE the fall and Halloween! It's one of the only times you can be someone else for a day, and no one will judge you :) As for traditions, we don't have any real unique ones...just the regular carving pumpkins, decorating the house with spider webs and spooky characters. Although I'm the only one who ends up doing the pumpkins, because either they think it's too gross pulling out the seeds and goop, or they are too young to do the actual carving.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME ENTRIES LADIES! :) Wow! :) :) This is going to be REALLY tough! :) xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteHey there...what a really fun treat. :) One year my hubby and I were searching for our pumpkins and we found a pumpkin unlike any we had EVER seen before. It was WHITE. We immediately thought JACK SKELLINGTON! And so my hubby set to work carving our favorite movie character. He does a great job. So, each and every year since we hunt down white pumpkins to find THE perfect one to make Jack. And we light him up and watch him glow. I don't suppose we can now find a bluish pumpkin so we can create Sally!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteTHAT is so cool! :) Thanks for your submission Theresa! :) XOXOXO
