KIM (WSD): Hi Yudelca! Thanks so much for taking the time to “chat” with me.  First, let me say that your hair clips for little girls are simply the BEST. The clips you made for my daughter have worked like a charm for well over a year now. They stay in, they don’t slip, and she looks adorable in them. Can you tell my readers how you got your start on Etsy?  

Yudelca (WSC):

Thank you so much Kim for inviting me to this interview. I am so happy to know that you are a happy customer! That is my main goal in my business: to make sure my customers are happy by receiving high quality products that will last.

I decided to start selling on Etsy after trying out EBay. I realized that I needed a place exclusively for handmade items. I did some research and found out about this awesome site that had reasonable listing prices and gave you the chance to start your business easily. So I didn’t hesitate in opening a store. I couldn’t believe that I sold my first item the first day I published it. I said to myself: -this could really work. That’s how Etsy became my favorite place to sell my handmade hair accessories.

Hair Supplies: Appliques

WSD: You also have a supply shop on Etsy as well; something I’ve been thinking of doing too; is it a major challenge to operate two shops at the same time?

WSC:  It is really challenging having two shops. The major challenge is time. I really wish I had more time to list more supplies. My Hair Accessories Shop takes most of my time. However, creating them is what I love to do the most.

WSD: What would you say is your biggest difficulty while working on your craft and how do you overcome it?

WSC:  I would say my biggest difficulty is managing my time. I have to create time to be a mom, a wife and a business owner. What has helped me overcome it is keeping a “to do” list for everyday and trying to stick to it.

WSD: What would you say is your biggest JOY while working on your craft? Why?

WSC:  My biggest joy is my customer’s feedback! All I want is to make every customer happy with their purchase. When I receive feedback where customers say how much they liked my product, I feel so much joy because I know that I accomplished my main goal of keeping my customers happy.

WSD: Your photos are absolutely stunning and incredible. You capture such happiness in each one. Can you give us some advice or tips on how you take such wonderful pictures for your Etsy shop(s)? 

WSC: Thanks for the compliments on the photos. What really helps on having great photos is a great camera and good lighting. Natural lighting works best. I try to take pictures during the day time and on sunny days. Those are the pictures that always look best. It also takes a lot of practice. Getting to know your camera is always really helpful. Also, having a great editing program is essential but you don’t need to spend a fortune for that. I really recommend www.picnik.com, it’s free and very easy to use.

WSD: A lot of my readers are new to Etsy and or interested in starting up an Etsy shop. What would your number one tip to them be?

WSC: If you are starting a business on Etsy, it is important to have great pictures. Shops with great pictures are the ones that get more views and more sales. So before you start, make sure you get great pictures of the items, from all their angles, so the customer has an idea of how it will look.

WSD: And lastly, (this is a several part question) if you were asked to be in a blockbuster movie: a) what type of movie would it be b) what role would you have in the movie (director, leading role, extra, producer, etc.) and c) where would it take place?

WSC: a) I would say a romantic comedy movie; those are my favorite.

b) I would love to be in a leading role.

c) It would have to take place in a romantic place, like Paris.
